If you’ve been to Union Square in Manhattan and are like me, you’ve probably stared at that ticking display on the side of this building, wondering what the countdown is - or what the countup is - or the countdown - depending on which side you look at. Turns out that it’ a piece of art. The four leftmost digits are the current hour and minute in military time. The rightmost six are the hours, minutes and seconds until midnight.

Fascinating.
